A world away from Los Angeles and yet just a short ferry ride from Long Beach lies Santa Catalina Island. I love going here and exploring the town and harbor of Avalon. To see everything I recommend a minimum stay of two days on the island. Be sure to visit the Isthmus on the other end of the island. To get there you must travel by bus or boat which both have views of pristine habitat. On my last trip there I went by boat and was escorted by dolphins. On my return through the interior I lucked out and captured a great eye contact shot with an American bison.
