Majestic Malibu

Updated: Oct 29, 2023

When the temperature rises, people flock to Malibu for a break from the heat and the crowds of the city. Malibu to many means the pier, but for me it is the canyon roads and the hidden beaches. The people of means choose to be here for a reason. Topanga Canyon State Park is close to town and the overlook on the Pacific side offers views galore. On an hour hike, you can see the Santa Monica Mountains, Catalina Island and Downtown. South of Zuma Beach is Point Dume. It is a spectacular bird reserve where seals enjoy pristine coves and the birds the bluffs above. There is a secret point break that locals surf daily. On a flat day, I caught Glass off at Point Dume. Up the coast there are El Matador and El Pescador state beach parks. I got lucky to capture Girls Playing at El Matador there. These coves are great for the cliffs and rock outcroppings. Another favorite is the Malibu Lagoon where you can park at the pier and walk north. The last time I did, I walked back to find Hasidism at Malibu Pier - see below. With camera or not, I recommend a pass through one or all of these amazing places.
